Actors Ed Helms, of The Hangover fame, and Ben Foster, of Hell or High Water fame, are the latest additions to the star cast of writer-director Michael Dowse's upcoming film The Stunt Driver. The update also announced that actors Laurence Leboeuf and Dan Bakkedahl have joined the film, starring Jay Baruchel in the lead.
The film is based on the real story of Montrealer Carter. Carter is known as the 'Mad Canadian' stunt driver who attempted during the 70s to jump the Saint Lawrence River in a rocket car. This bid was Carter's dream to end his 30-year-old career on a high note, which would catapult him to stardom, along with a big paycheck.
Announced in November last year, the film is currently under production. In the movie, Helms will play Dick Keller, a virtuoso engineer who brings his expertise in designing the rocket-powered car that would forever be etched in history as the vehicle involved in the most dangerous stunt. Meanwhile, Foster will star as Evel Knievel, Lebouef as Gloria, the girlfriend of Baruchel's Ken Carter, and Bakkedahl as Carter's manager. The star cast is rounded by Joe Cobden and Marc Beaupre.
The recent feature and TV credits of Helms, whose role in the hit TV series The Office was popular, include Family Switch, True Story with Ed & Randall, and Together Together. Foster will next be seen starring alongside Sydney Sweeney in the sports drama Christy, which is releasing on November 7.
