Matthew McConaughey's role as Rust Cohle in True Detective was universally acclaimed when the first season of the anthology premiered. The actor, who was recently seen in The Lost Bus, talked about making a sequel focusing on his character and Woody Harrelson's character.
In an interview with NME, the actor was asked about series creator Nic Pizzolato's tease for a sequel, for which McConaughey replied, "There’s excitement, yes, but I haven’t seen a script yet." He added, "The script was on fire so the execution must go another step. We’re keen on the idea but it’s nothing more than an idea."
Speaking about his reaction if such a sequel where to take place, McConaughey said, "If Nic puts something on paper that Woody and I think is good enough, it wouldn’t even be a choice. We would look at it and go, ‘it must happen’. It’s gotta be damn good though because we set a pretty good precedent!"
A fourth season of the show, starring Jodie Foster in the lead was released last year. Nicholas Cage has also been rumoured to lead the fifth season of True Detective.
