After Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread (2017), Daniel Day-Lewis announced his retirement from acting. But the three time Oscar winner is back with Anemone, a psychological drama directed by Ronan Day-Lewis, his son.
In an interview with Discussing Film about Anemone, Ronan said, "It made it easier, that we began the project and the script with a sense of lightness, that I think was really important, and a sense of humour that I think was really important in exploring these incredibly dark subjects."
He added, "By the time we got to set, we had the opportunity over multiple years to really discuss every facet of Anemone. We had this great shorthand and trust, that also obviously came from our familiarity with each other. So it was a great gift when it came to shooting it.
Anemone is Ronan's feature directorial debut, which he has made from a script he wrote with his father. The cast for the film also includes Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green.
Daniel Day-Lewis's performance have been consistently well received, with multiple award nominations for almost all of his performances. His performance as Reynolds Woodcock in Phantom Thread, garnered him his sixth Oscar nomination. He is also the only male actor to receive three Best Actor Oscars.
