

Popular singer-songwriter is set to lead and produce an upcoming musical film inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland for Universal Pictures. The film is moving forward five years after it was first announced with Ross Evans as screenwriter. Now, the film will be directed by Lorene Scafaria, known for Hustlers and Succession from her script.
Apart from Carpenter, Marc Platt will also back the yet-to-be-titled film through Marc Platt Productions, which will also release Wicked: For Good in theatres later this month on November 21. Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton are also producing through Alloy Entertainment. Plot details and Carpenter's role along with further cast members are currently under wraps.
Carrol's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was originally published in 1865. Disney released the iconic animation film based on the book in 1951 as well as Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (2010) and its sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016) which starred Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter.
Carpenter recently received six nominations at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards including Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Man’s Best Friend, as well as Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Music Video for Manchild. As an actor, her credits include the films The Hate U Give and Emergency, along with the 2010s TV series Girl Meets World.
