Timothee Chalamet has no plans to make the leap to television anytime soon. While many of his peers have embraced acclaimed TV projects in recent years, the Dune and Wonka star made it clear in a recent Vogue interview that he’s not interested in returning to the small screen.
When asked if he would ever consider starring in a television series, Chalamet’s answer was brief and definitive: “No.”
The Oscar-nominated actor first launched his career in television, appearing in shows like Law & Order (2009), Royal Pains, and Homeland, where he had a recurring role in 2012, his last TV credit before transitioning to film. His big-screen journey began with a supporting role in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar (2014) and reached a turning point with Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name (2017), earning him an Academy Award nomination at just 22.
Since then, Chalamet has built an enviable résumé with acclaimed performances in Lady Bird, Beautiful Boy, Little Women, Bones and All, Wonka, and the Dune saga. Most recently, he portrayed Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown, a performance that generated major awards buzz and earned him a SAG Award, though he ultimately lost the Oscar race to Adrien Brody for The Brutalist.
Reflecting on the experience of losing, Chalamet told Vogue, “If there are five people at an awards show, and four people go home losing, you don’t think those four people are at the restaurant like, ‘Damn, we didn’t win’? I’ve been around some deeply generous, no-ego actors, and maybe some of them are going, ‘That was fun.’ But I know for a fact a lot of them are going, ‘F***!’”
Known for his relentless work ethic and commitment to his craft, Chalamet also addressed critics who label him a “try-hard”. His response was unapologetic: “People can call me a try-hard, and they can say whatever, but I’m the one actually doing it here.”
Up next, the actor will star in Marty Supreme, a sports drama inspired by the life of table tennis legend Marty Reisman. The role, according to early buzz, could once again put Chalamet in the running for another Oscar, a challenge he seems more than ready to take on.
