Hollywood’s favourite Muppet diva is heading back to the big screen. A film centred around the iconic Miss Piggy is currently in early development, with Oscar winners Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone attached as producers.

Lawrence revealed the news during her recent appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast, saying, “I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just gonna. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie, and Cole [Escola] is writing it.” She later confirmed that Escola, best known for Oh, Mary!, will be penning the screenplay.

Though plot details are still under wraps, Lawrence hinted that both she and Stone might appear in front of the camera as well. “I think so. We have to,” she said when asked about potential cameos.

Miss Piggy, who made her debut on The Muppet Show in the 1970s, has long been a pop culture mainstay and the glamorous counterpart to Kermit the Frog. Together, the duo became the faces of The Muppets, who earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The timing of the announcement comes as The Muppets prepare for their next outing, a Muppet Show revival for Disney+ led by Seth Rogen, with Sabrina Carpenter serving as both special guest and executive producer.

Created by Jim Henson in 1955, The Muppets made their television debut in 1969 on Sesame Street. The beloved franchise has been part of The Walt Disney Company since 2004.

Lawrence is currently promoting her upcoming film Die My Love, in which she stars alongside Robert Pattinson. The film is set to hit theatres this week. Emma Stone, on the other hand, is fresh off the release of Bugonia, helmed by Yorgos Lanthimos and also starring Jesse Plemons.
