Caught Stealing Trailer: Austin Butler becomes bedfellows with cat and criminals in Darren Aronofsky’s thriller

The other day, Sony Pictures Entertainment, the distributor of Caught Stealing, dropped a trailer for the Darren Aronofsky directorial, starring Austin Butler and Zoe Kravitz in the lead roles. Butler portrays an erstwhile baseball player neck deep in New York City's criminal underworld. At one point in the trailer, Butler's character asks Kravitz's whether she can take care of his dog as he flies to London. However, from the distributor's one-liner, it seems Butler's character is not the cat's owner. "He was just supposed to watch the cat. Now he's running for his f**king life," reads the description.

Caught Stealing is based on Charlie Huston's eponymous book, which Huston himself adapted for the screen. The film marks a return to directorial duties for Aronofsky after 2022's The Whale, starring Best Actor Oscar winner Brendan Fraser. It also marks a departure from Aronofsky's brand of cinema, which often leans more towards the more serious content. Debuting its first footage at this year's CinemaCon, the filmmaker described it as "something different" and an output of his desire to do a film with "a lot of fun" to offer.

Shot in Aronofsky's hometown New York City, the filmmaker termed it "a true love letter to the greatest city in the world."

The film also stars Regina King, Matt Smith, Bad Bunny, Liev Schreiber, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Carol Kane, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Griffin Dunne. Caught Stealing is slated for an August 29 release.
