
Penelope Cruz has onboarded the cast of La Bola Negra, directed by noted Spanish directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi. The duo are jointly known as Los Javis and the film is set to be based on an unfinished play by Federico García Lorca.
Penelope Cruz joins previously announced cast members Guitarricadelafuente, a singer and guitarist who is making his debut through this film; Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González, and Lola Dueñas.
According to Variety, the film weaves together the lives of three men across three different time periods. Their stories are intimately connected through sexuality, desire, pain, and legacy.
Announced in Cannes on Monday, La Bola Negra will start filming in August across Spain and Europe. It is backed by Movistar Plus+ and Suma Content Films in co-production with France’s Le Pacte. Goodfellas, a French sales company has taken the rights outside of Spain and France.
Los Javis has previously made La Mesias, a Spanish family thriller series released in 2023. Most of the crew members from La Mesías will return for La Bola Negra.
La Bola Negra is set to premiere in theatres in 2026 and later will hit Movistar Plus+.
