Netflix has come to the rescue of Sesame Street, forging a fresh partnership that not only ensures the show’s survival but also makes it more accessible than ever. The long-running children’s series will now be available on both the global streaming platform and PBS, marking a rare dual-release strategy that emphasises both reach and accessibility.
Starting later this year, Sesame Street will return with its 56th season, reimagined and restructured. Moving away from its long-standing magazine-style format, the show will now feature longer narrative segments and introduce a new animated companion series titled Tales From 123. Episodes will be released in three batches on Netflix.
The deal is a significant shift from the show's previous arrangement with Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max, which recently decided not to renew its output deal as part of a broader strategic overhaul. While select past episodes will still remain on HBO Max, the new collaboration with Netflix and PBS secures the programme's future and expands its accessibility.
