Mark Ruffalo and Tucker Pillsbury onboard Natalie Portman-Lena Dunham’s Good Sex

Lena Dunham’s upcoming romantic comedy Good Sex for Netflix is heating up with the addition of Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo and musician-turned-actor Tucker Pillsbury, better known as Role Model. The duo will star opposite Natalie Portman, who also produces the film through her banner MountainA alongside Sophie Mas.

The story follows Ally, a practical and slightly jaded couples’ therapist who finds herself back in the dating pool after the end of a long-term relationship. As she approaches 40, she unexpectedly finds herself entangled with two men — one in his twenties, the other in his fifties — forcing her to confront the messy realities of desire, timing, and the myth of a one-size-fits-all formula for good sex.

Good Sex is penned and directed by Dunham, who is also producing with Michael Cohen under their Good Thing Going Productions label. Executive producers include Tim Bevan and Michael Sledd, along with Michaela Celella for MountainA.

The project is one of two romantic comedies Dunham is delivering for Netflix. Her other title, the series Too Much starring Will Sharpe and Megan Stalter, is set to premiere on July 10.

Ruffalo, fresh off his Oscar-nominated turn in Poor Things and a recent role in Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, continues a strong run in both film and TV. He recently starred in Cooper Raiff’s indie series Hal & Harper, which premiered at Sundance, and is set to headline HBO’s upcoming crime miniseries Task, created by Mare of Easttown’s Brad Ingelsby. He’ll also appear in Crime 101 from Amazon MGM and Now You See Me: Now You Don’t for Lionsgate.

Pillsbury, who makes a rare foray into acting with Good Sex, is better known for his music career as Role Model, with albums like 'Rx' and 'Kansas Anymore'.
