Just days after S.W.A.T. wrapped its eight-season run on CBS, Sony Pictures Television has revealed it’s not the end of the road for Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. A new spinoff series, S.W.A.T. Exiles, is in the works, with Shemar Moore reprising his iconic role and production set to begin this summer in Los Angeles.
Titled S.W.A.T. Exiles, the 10-episode series will follow Hondo as he’s pulled out of forced retirement to lead an experimental S.W.A.T. unit of unpredictable young recruits. The setup promises a fresh team dynamic as Hondo navigates generational gaps, conflicting personalities, and the high-stakes missions that define the franchise. No additional cast members have been announced yet.
Jason Ning (Lucifer) steps in as showrunner, joining a strong executive team that includes Moore himself, Neal H Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, and James Scura.
Sony’s decision to continue the franchise independently comes after CBS chose not to renew the show, despite eleventh-hour revivals in previous seasons. S.W.A.T. officially ended on May 16 with an emotional farewell scene that saw Hondo and his squad responding to one last call, tapping the S.W.A.T. symbol on their way out.
