Filmmaker David Lowery is turning Ottessa Moshfegh's cult novel Death in Her Hands into a feature film, starring Tilda Swinton in the lead role. See-Saw Films, known for the Best Picture Oscar winners The Power of the Dog and The King's Speech, is attached to the project as a producer.

Death in Her Hands follows a recent widow (Swinton) who encounters a scary note from a stranger: "Her name was Magda. Nobody will ever know who killed her. It wasn’t me. Here is her dead body." Only, the corpse is non-existent, as is blood. The recent loss of her husband left her feeling adrift. With just her camera and dog Charlie for company, besides a highly active mind, she developed a consuming interest in uncovering the truth about Magda—who she was and what ultimately became of her. Going by the official plotline, "As her inner world begins to eclipse reality, the mystery of Magda threatens Vesta’s grip on her own life — until, in a spellbinding operatic climax, we realise that Magda’s death may finally allow Vesta to live.”
