Actor Maika Monroe is all set to headline the upcoming psychological horror thriller Victorian Psycho where she will play the role of a killer governess. Margaret Qualley was earlier supposed to star in the role. Director Zachary Wigon will helm the film which is an adaptation of the best-selling book by Virginia Feito who also penned the script.
Monroe stars as Winifred Notty, an unusual and unpredictable young governess who arrives at the isolated and eerie Ensor House in 1858. Tasked with teaching the children proper etiquette and instructing them on their ancestral lineage, Winifred appears dedicated—while secretly concealing her deeply disturbed nature. As she settles into her role, members of the household staff begin to vanish without explanation, prompting the estate’s owners to grow increasingly suspicious of their enigmatic new employee.
Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho) is also part of the cast. The film is set to go on floors in August this year.
Dan Kagan, in his third association with Monroe after Longlegs and Significant Other, is backing this project. Sébastien Raybaud of Anton and Wigon are also producing in association with Anonymous Content. Executive producers are Nick Shumaker, Bard Dorros and Virginia Feito.
Monroe is not new to the horror genre as she starred alongside Nicholas Cage in last year's Longlegs. Her other credits include It Follows, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, The Guest and Watcher. Up next, she is set to begin filming for Colleen Hoover's adaptation of Reminders of Him novel.
