Amanda Seyfried and Scoot McNairy are set to headline The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd from actor-director Tim Blake Nelson.

The prison break thriller is currently filming in Georgia and revolves around a teacher trapped in an abusive marriage who begins working at a maximum-security prison. There, she becomes entangled with a captivating inmate, setting off a chain of events with devastating consequences that challenge ideas of justice, revenge, and the boundaries of human compassion.

The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd is backed by Julie Buck, Nelson, Ryan Bartecki, Miles David Romney, and Billy Hines. Executive producers are Christopher Hines and Gary Levinsohn.

As quoted by Deadline, Nelson said that he was fortunate to tell this story with a talented cast. “I have always admired Amanda, and getting to work with her on Mona Fastvold’s film ANN LEE last summer confirmed for me what an extraordinary person she is aside from her talent. As for Scoot, it’s great to be able to offer him such a demanding part. No one has seen him do what he’s about to accomplish in this role," he said. Nelson also noted that it is a "difficult story" that won't let the audiences go.

Best known for her performance in David Fincher's Mank, Amanda Seyfried currently stars in Long Bright River, a critically acclaimed crime drama adapted from Liz Moore’s novel. Her upcoming projects include the thriller The Housemaid alongside Sydney Sweeney, the Sony comedy My Ex-Friend’s Wedding, the musical Ann Lee from the creators of The Brutalist, and a sequel animated series to Ted.

Scoot McNairy was recently seen playing Woody Guthrie in James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown. Over the past year, he also appeared in Nightbitch and Speak No Evil. More recently, he starred in Kate Beecroft’s Sundance 2025 drama East of Wall. His upcoming projects include the survival thriller Die by Night and Netflix’s Man on Fire series.

As a director, Nelson’s recent credits include Leaves of Grass, Anesthesia, and Amazon’s Z: The Beginning of Everything featuring Christina Ricci. On the acting front, he was most recently seen in Captain America: Brave New World. His upcoming roles include Ann Lee, the drama On the End, and the FX series The Lowdown from Sterlin Harjo, where he stars alongside Ethan Hawke.
