Actor Benedict Wong is the latest to join the cast of Ridley Scott's upcoming film The Dog Stars. He joins an ensemble cast which includes Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, and Guy Pearce.
The Dog Stars is currently in production in Italy and marks the third collaboration of Wong and Scott following Prometheus (2012) and The Martian (2015).
The Dog Stars is based on Peter Heller’s 2012 post-apocalyptic thriller novel of the same name and is adapted to screen by Mark L Smith. The film is set in the near future in Colorado when the world's population has been ravaged by a pandemic. A civilian pilot, Hig (Elordi), leads a solitary life on a deserted Colorado airfield, accompanied only by his dog and a tough ex-Marine (Josh Brolin). Despite their stark differences, the two men rely on one another to protect themselves from wandering invaders. After a crash landing, Hig meets Cima (Margaret Qualley), a young doctor, and her father (Guy Pearce), a protective rancher, at a secluded ranch. This encounter sparks a possibility for a brighter, more intelligent future for all.
The film is scripted for screen by Mark L Smith, known for his work on The Revenant. Scott and Michael Pruss will produce for Scott Free alongside Smith and Cliff Roberts.
Best known for his work in the MCU in films starting from Doctor Strange, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wong is currently awaiting the release of Weapons, the much-anticipated film from Zach Cregger which is slated for release on August 8. After The Dog Stars, he will begin working on 3 Body Problem season 2, along with Avengers: Doomsday.
