The Snow Queen, a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, has been adapted into an animated film titled North, as per Variety. The film is directed by Bente Lohne, a fantasy author. It follows Gerda, who embarks on a journey to find her missing friend Kai. In her journey, she befriends people, beasts, birds, and a benevolent witch, unsuspecting of a hostile adversary, the Snow Queen and Louie, the evil queen's devil apprentice. The Snow Queen has Kai in captivity in an ice palace situated in Finnmark.

In North, Mikkelsen is set to voice Kai's carpenter father Severin, who personifies "wisdom, sorrow and the timeless magic of storytelling," as per a statement from the makers. Severin makes a sled as a Christmas gift for Kai, but he grieves as his son disappears alongside the sled.

Produced by Hakon Gundersen under his PictoryLand banner, alongside Anima Vitae. Pixar Animation Studios' co-founder Ralph Guggenheim, known for his work on Toy Story, serves as a consulting producer on the project.

It has an orchestral score by Raymond Enoksen, a leading composer for films and TV programs in Scandinavia, who also composed the original song 'True North'. Maria Arredondo, a pop singer from Norway, performed the other original track 'Finding You' with Rolf Lovland's composition.
