Netflix has announced that actor Mary Steenburgen has been cast in the second season of A Man on the Inside. She will be joining her real-life husband Ted Danson in a lead role in the comedy series.
Steenburgen is set to essay the role of Mona Margadoff, who is described as "a former musician who factors heavily in the case Charles is trying to solve."
Created by Mike Schur, A Man On the Inside centers on Charles (Danson), a retired man who gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad from a PI and becomes a mole in a secret investigation. He works for private detective Julie (Lilah Richcreek Estrada) and lives in a retirement home to investigate thefts in the residents' apartments. This is where he also learns to open up with his daughter played by Mary Elizabeth Ellis.
According to Deadline, the series is taking on an anthology format, with Charles tackling a new case each season. The second season will see the actor sleuthing at a liberal arts college, sources said. Within a month of the first season's premiere in November, the streaming giant renewed the show for Season 2. The upcoming season is set to start filming in April.
A Man on the Inside brings Danson back together with The Good Place creator, Mike Schur. It is based on the documentary The Mole Agent, a 2021 Oscar nominee for Best Documentary Feature.
Steenburgen and Danson have also worked together on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm. They previously co-starred in the short-lived 1996 comedy Ink, and Steenburgen has guest-starred on all of Danson's major series over the past two decades, including Becker, Bored to Death, The Good Place, and Mr. Mayor.
