Willa Fitzgerald is set to star in the Cold War thriller, Billion Dollar Spy, reports Deadline. The thriller is based on David E Hoffman's nonfiction book The Billion Dollar Spy.
Set in the later stages of the Cold War, Adolf Tolkachev (Crowe), a normal man, passes on top-secret Soviet intelligence to the US's Central Intelligence Agency, despite the CIA repeatedly rejecting it due to their concerns. Harry Lawtey plays a CIA agent named Tom Lenihan, with Fitzgerald playing his wife Mae Lenihan.
Fitzgerald is known for her roles in Strange Darlings, Reacher, Fall of the House of Usher, and Strange Darling.
Billion Dollar Spy is directed by Amma Asante, from a script by Stephen Gaghan and Ben August. Akiva Goldsman and Greg Lessans of Weed Road Pictures, and Frank Smith, Benjamin Tappan, and Cher Hawrysh of Walden Media are producing the project. Ferenc Szale, David Minkowski, and Ildiko Kemeny are the co-producers, with Jane Hooks as an executive producer.
Billion Dollar Spy is currently in preproduction.
