Actor Julie Delpy, known for Before Sunrise is the latest to join the star-studded cast of the upcoming film The Entertainment System Is Down. She joins Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl, Keanu Reeves, Nicholas Braun, Tobias Menzies, Connor Swindells, Daniel Webber, Wayne Blair, Dan Wyllie, Lindsay Duncan, Allan Corduner, Sofia Tjelta Sydness, Erin Ainsworth, Myles Kamwendo, Elle Piper, Thibaud Dooms, Sanna Sundqvist, Tea Stjärne, Swedish artist Benjamin Ingrosso and Sanjeev Bhaskar.

Ruben Östlund, known for Triangle of Sadness (2022) and Force Majeure (2014) is directing this film which is described to be a social satire. The film went on floors in Budapest in January. According to the makers, the plot revolves around a long flight from England to Australia where the failure of the entertainment system drives passengers to boredom. 

A Swedish-German-French co-co-production, The Entertainment System is Down reunites the director with his trusted collaborators: producer Philippe Bober from Coproduction Office and producer Erik Hemmendorff of Plattform Produktion. The global distribution is managed by the Coproduction Office.

This film marks Östlund's second venture into English-language cinema and his seventh feature overall, following acclaimed works such as The Guitar MongoloidInvoluntaryPlayForce Majeure and The Square.

Julie Delpy made her debut at 14 in Jean-Luc Godard’s Detective and has since starred in numerous American and European films, including Killing Zoe, Krzysztof Kieslowski’s Three Colors trilogy, and Richard Linklater’s Before series alongside Ethan Hawke. She earned two Academy Award nominations for co-writing Before Sunset and Before Midnight. Delpy also wrote, directed, and starred in 2 Days in Paris and 2 Days in New York. Her other credits include Broken Flowers, The Hoax, and Avengers: Age of Ultron. A three-time César nominee, she recently wrote, directed, and starred in Meet the Barbarians. She recently completed filming for Matt Charman’s limited series The Choice for Netflix.
