The cast of HBO's Harry Potter series continues to expand as Nick Frost is in talks to play Rubeus Hagrid, reports Deadline. The series adaptation of JK Rowling's novels was announced in 2023.

Portrayed by the late Robbie Coltrane in the film series, Rubeus Hagrid is a half-giant who is the gamekeeper of the wizarding school Hogwarts.

Earlier John Lithgow confirmed he will play Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts. Janet McTeer is in negotiations to portray Professor McGonagall, the transfiguration professor at Hogwarts, with Paapa Essiedu in talks to play Professor Snape, the potions master at Hogwarts.

Meanwhile HBO said the following in a statement, “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumour and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalise deals.”

Planned to run for ten years, the Harry Potter series has Francesca Gardiner as the showrunner and a writer. She is known for writing on shows like Succession and His Dark Materials. Mark Mylod is set to serve as a director and executive producer for the series. He is known for directing the film The Menu (2022) and for his work in television on series like Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, and Succession. JK Rowling and Neil Blair are set to serve as executive producers with Ruth Kenley-Letts under her Bronte Film and TV banner, and David Heyman under his Heyday Films banner.

Frost is known for his roles in Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End, Fighting with My Family, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, and for writing and starring in Paul (2011).
