In less than a month of its release, Bong Joon Ho's latest release Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson in the lead role has crossed its first box office milestone. Despite receiving positive reception from critics worldwide, the film underperformed in theatres, earning just over $100 million, which consists of $40 million from US markets and $70 million from overseas.

An adaptation of Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey 7, the film follows a “disposable” space colonist named Mickey Barnes, whose consciousness is restored in a new clone body each time he dies. Ashton’s sequel, Antimatter Blues, was published last year.

Made over a budget of $120 million, the film, according to reports, needs to earn around $250 million in order to break even.

Our CE review of the film read, "Mickey 17 excels in laying bare the societal machinations that work to make a slave out of a person by exploiting their psychological weakness borne of self-reproach. Mark Ruffalo's Kenneth Marshall, the leader-politician of the off-world colony, seems to be a direct amalgamation of the Donald Trumps and Elon Musks of the world, a wildly relevant and interesting character archetype."

Bong’s adaptation featured his signature style, with a cast including Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. The film is produced by Plan B Entertainment, Dooho Choi of Kate Street Picture Company, and Bong’s own Offscreen, Inc.
