

Actor Sydney Sweeney is all set to bring a Reddit Short story to the big screen. The Anyone But You and Immaculate actor will headline as well as bankroll the upcoming film I Pretended To Be A Missing Girl. Based on a short story by Joe Cote, a high school English teacher, the film will be scripted by Eric Roth, who served as the screenwriter for Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, A Star Is Born and Dune: Part One, among others.
Cote’s story, I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl to Rob Her Family, follows a young woman who arrives at a family’s home, claiming to be their daughter who disappeared a decade ago. Her scheme is to convince them of her identity, stay for just one night, steal valuables, and escape before they uncover the truth.
A director for the film is yet to be announced. Sweeney will produce the project through her company, Fifty-Fifty Films, alongside Underground’s Trevor Engelson and Folbe, Room 101’s Steven Schneider, and Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Mira Yoon. Cote will serve as an executive producer.
Over the years, Sweeney has been taking many producing roles along with starring in the film. She was also an executive producer on Anyone But You and Immaculate.
Up next, Sweeney is set to executive produce and star alongside Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar in Paul Feig’s thriller The Housemaid, which is scheduled for a Christmas Day release.
She is also starring in and producing Scandalous!, portraying Kim Novak in the film directed by Colman Domingo in his feature debut. Additionally, Sweeney is producing and leading David Michôd’s biopic about trailblazing female boxer Christy Martin.
Following this, she also has Apple’s Echo Valley, alongside Julianne Moore, Kyle MacLachlan, and Domhnall Gleeson.
