In the fourth episode of Marvel's Daredevil: Born Again, we see Matt Murdock clashing with Frank Castle as Murdock's pursuit of finding answers about a death leads him to Castle. But instead of finding answers, he is forced to introspect as a result of Castle asking him the tough questions.
Jon Bernthal, with just a few minutes on screen, shines as Castle and talks about his appearance to Entertainment Weekly. Bernthal said, "Let's see if there's a real openness and a hunger to let Frank be what Frank is, which is dark enough to have the courage and the boldness to turn your back on the audience and to make it difficult, to make it enormously psychologically complex and to steer away from any cuteness or humour and to really go full bore."
Describing this appearance as a toe dip, Bernthal is set to reprise his role as The Punisher in a Marvel Studios Special Presentation for the character. The presentation will be directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who is well known for directing King Richard. Bernthal also writes the special with Green.
After episode four of Daredevil: Born Again, Bernthal revealed, "I feel like it's opened the door to getting closer to the Frank Castle that I really, really want to portray."
Marvel's initial plan for Daredevil: Born Again ended after a creative overhaul took place after filming six episodes. Bernthal, who was approached to reprise his character before the overhaul, felt that this version of Frank Castle was not true to its mythology. He recalled, "Ultimately, I didn't see it. I didn't see the version of Frank, and what they wanted from Frank [didn't] really make sense to me, and I thought would not appeal to the fans and wouldn't be congruent. It was not something I was really interested in doing. So we had to walk away."
New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again are released every Wednesday on JioHotstar.
