Season two of Nicole Kidman's The Perfect Couple is currently in the works at Netflix. While the first season of the series concluded with a climax that ties all knots, the makers have reportedly decided to go with a second season due to popular demand by making it an anthology series.
While Netflix is yet to confirm, a report on The Hollywood Reporter suggests that the second season will hold on to the Nantucket setting from the first season but will move on to tell the story of a different affluent family, played by a new cast.
The first season of The Perfect Couple was based on Elin Hilderbrand's eponymous 2018 novel, set in Nantucket. Reportedly, the second season of the series will be based on Hilderbrand's fourth novel in the Nantucket franchise, 2024's Swan Song. Joanna Calo, who served as co-showrunner on The Bear, will be replacing Jenna Lamia as showrunner of the upcoming season, while also adapting the book.
Swan Song focuses on the Richardson family, who move to Nantucket after buying a $22 million property. As a family, they are initially appeasing to everyone as they throw huge parties, own two yachts, and jovially mingle with the locals. However, when their house is burnt down, causing their most important employee to go missing, the locals become overcome with grief.
The Perfect Couple, which premiered in September 2024, also starred Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, Billy Howle, Meghann Fahy, Donna Lynne Champlin, Jack Reynor, Michael Beach, Ishaan Khatter, Sam Nivola, Mia Isaac, and Dakota Fanning. The series brought substantial viewership to Netflix, influencing their decision to renew it for another season.
Apart from starring, Kidman also executive produced the first season and will go on to executive produce the upcoming season alongside Per Saari of Blossom Films, Gail Berman, Shawn Levy, season one director Susanne Bier, and Hend Baghdady.
