Prime Video will not be renewing the TV series adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons. The series, which comes after the 1999 film adaptation titled Cruel Intentions, made its debut premiere in November 2024.

Sarah Catherine Hook, Zac Burgess, Savannah Lee Smith, Sara Silva, John Harlan Kim, Khobe Clarke, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Brooke Lena Johnson starred in prominent roles in the Cruel Intentions series.

In 2021, IMDb TV set up a TV show based on the Cruel Intentions film, which was then formally ordered in 2022 by Prime Video. Co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers of the show were Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher.

As per the official description, the show revolves around "the elite students of Manchester College, a Washington, D.C.-adjacent university, where reputation means everything, fraternities and sororities are the gold standard, and two ruthless step-siblings, Caroline Merteuil (Hook) and Lucien Belmont (Burgess), will do anything to stay on top of the cutthroat social hierarchy. After a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Greek Life system, they’ll do whatever is necessary to preserve their power and reputation—even if that means seducing Annie Grover (Smith), the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. Hearts will be broken, loyalties will be tested, and secrets will be revealed in this modern-day royal court that is Manchester College.”

Other executive producers of Cruel Intentions were Original Film's Neal H Moritz and Pavun Shetty and Roger Kumble. Kumble was the writer and director of the original film, which was produced by Moritz. Producers of the series adaptation are Bruce Mellon, Andrea Iervolino, and Monika Bacardi of the Iervolino & Bacardi Entertainment banner. Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, and Original Film produced the series.

Before this series materialised, a follow-up to the film was ordered by NBC in 2016 starring one of the film's original actors, Sarah Michelle Gellar, set to reprise her role as Kathryn Merteuil. However, that version did not materialise. Fox also attempted a prequel series to Cruel Intentions, which was shelved before going live.
