Warner Bros., the makers of Dune: Part Two, revealed the hit sequel of Dune (2021) is returning to theatres in India for a seven-day run, from March 14. Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024) are adapted from Frank Herbert's Dune (1965), which tells the story of Paul Atreides' journey on the hostile planet Arrakis.
Dune (2021) starred Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, who is the son of Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) and Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac). When Duke Leto is ordered to oversee the spice-mining planet of Arrakis, Paul is seemingly caught in the centre of an intergalactic conspiracy. Along with Chalamet, Ferguson, and Isaac, Dune also starred Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Chang Chen, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, and Zendaya.
Dune: Part Two (2024) continues the story of Paul and Jessica as they continue their journey within Arrakis. They are forced to confront the truth of Paul's purpose in Arrakis. Along with Chalamet and Ferguson, Brolin, Bardem, Skarsgard, Bautista, Rampling, and Zendaya reprise their roles. Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Lea Seydoux, Souheila Yacoub, and Christopher Walken join the cast of Dune: Part Two.
Apart from having commercially successful runs in the theatres, both films have received several accolades for their technical prowess. For Dune (2021), Hans Zimmer won his second Oscar for Best Original Score after The Lion King (1994). Greg Frasier won an Oscar for Best Cinematography. The film also won Best Sound, Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, and Best Visual Effects at the Oscars. Dune: Part Two was nominated for five Oscars and again won in the Best Sound and Best Visual Effects categories.
Dune: Part Two was co-produced and directed by Denis Villeneuve, who wrote the film along with Jon Spaihts. Villeneuve produced the film along with his wife, Tanya LaPointe. Legendary Pictures also produced the film, with Warner Bros. distributing it.
