
Keegan-Michael Key, known for co-creating and starring in the sketch comedy Key & Peele, is set to star alongside Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez in the upcoming fifth season of Only Murders in The Building.
Earlier, in September last year, the show was renewed for its fifth instalment. Production for the fifth season started a few days ago in New York. Additional cast members are yet to be announced by the makers.
In season 4, the podcast-making-murder-mystery-solving-trio of Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) try to solve the murder of Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch) who plays the body double of Charles. Parallely, they are invited to Hollywood for a film to be made on their podcast with Eva Longoria playing Mabel (Gomes), Eugene Levy playing Charles (Steve Martin), and Zach Galifianakis roped in to play Oliver (Martin Short). They lead cast members who play Charles, Mabel and Oliver's characters also help in the investigation.
After solving her murder, the cast finds Lester's (Teddy Coluca) body near the fountain, which left another cliffhanger for the fifth season. It is his murder that the team attempts to solve in the upcoming season.
The series also starred Meryl Streep as she returned as Oliver’s love interest, Kumail Nanjiani, Molly Shannon, Melissa McCarthy, Desmin Borges, Siena Werber, Lilian Rebelo, Richard Kind, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Catherine Cohen, and Jin Ha. Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Michael Cyril Creighton and Tina Fey were also part of the cast.
Only Murders in the Building is created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman. Attached to 20th Television, the series is co-created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman.
The Key & Peele actor is also known for voicing the character of Bumblebee in Transformers One and Toad in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. He also starred in the Farrelly brothers' Christmas comedy Dear Santa alongside Jack Black. On TV, Key starred in Hulu's Reboot, did an arc on ABC's Abbott Elementary, and guest-starred on CBS's Elsbeth.
He will next be seen in Amazon MGM Studios' crime thriller film Play Dirty with Mark Wahlberg.
