Wicked: Part 1, which won two Academy Awards for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design, is all set to premiere on JioHotstar on March 22. The film, helmed by Jon M Chu, hit theatres on November 22, 2024.
Written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, Wicked: Part 1 stars Ariana Grande as the good witch Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. In the Land of Oz, the story unfolds before Dorothy's arrival, focusing on the complex friendship between Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, who later becomes Glinda the Good.
Wicked: Part 1 achieved a milestone as the first fantasy film and the first musical since Moulin Rouge! (2001) to win Best Film at the National Board of Review. At the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, Wicked took home the award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and garnered nominations in three additional categories, including Best Musical or Comedy Film and acting nods for Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
Wicked: For Good, the sequel covering the musical's second act, is set to premiere on November 21, 2025.
