A Crazy Rich Asians TV series is in the works at Max. Adele Lim, who co-wrote the script for the film adaptation that was released in 2018, will serve as executive producer, writer and showrunner of the series while director John M Chu will also return, apart from executive producing it with Lim and author Kevin Kwan who wrote the novel.

The series, just like the film, will follow the story of the book. Published in 2013, Crazy Rich Asians was followed by China Rich Girlfriend, Rich People Problems, and Lies and Weddings in 2015, 2017 and 2024 respectively. It is to be noted that Kwan also executive produced the 2018 film.

The makers have not revealed if the original cast members will be returning for this series. Speaking to Deadline, sources said that the series will not replace the long-awaited sequel to the 2018 film which is still in development.

The book as well the film follows Rachel (Constance Wu), a Chinese-American professor, accompanies her fiance Nick (Henry Golding) on a trip to Singapore, only to be stunned upon learning that his family is among the wealthiest in the country.

The ensemble cast also includes Gemma Chan, Michelle Yeoh, Nico Santos, Ronny Chieng, Jimmy O Yang, Ken Jeong, Awkwafina, and Lisa Lu, among others.

While Lim will produce the upcoming series for which Warner Bros is the studio under her 100 Tigers banner, Chu will executive produce through his Electric Somewhere banner with Naia Cucukov of 100 Tigers. Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson of Color Force, and SK Global Entertainment's Chloe Dan will also be producing.

Apart from Crazy Rich Asians, Lim is well known for her directorial debut feature Joy Ride, which was released in 2023. She has also co-written Disney's Raya and the Last Dragon (2021). She is now involved in directing and producing The Princess Diaries 3 starring Anne Hathaway. Her other series work as a producer and co-executive producer include One Tree Hill, Private Practice, Reign and Dynasty.
