Paramount Pictures is exploring chilling territory once again with Suffer Little Children, an upcoming horror feature from rising filmmaker Rodrigue Huart. The studio has snapped up the original script in a preemptive deal, with Huart set to direct his own screenplay. The project marks a collaboration with Walter Hamada’s 18Hz Productions, which holds a first-look deal at Paramount.
Joining the production are Pablo Cruz, who will produce under his Canana banner, and Nick Romano, who boards the film as executive producer for 18Hz. Cruz also holds the rights to the original material that inspired the project.
Described as a reimagining of the cult 1976 Spanish horror film Who Can Kill A Child?, the new take will revisit the haunting premise of a couple arriving on an island where all the adults have mysteriously vanished. The original, directed by Narciso Ibáñez Serrador and based on Juan José Plans' novel El Juego De Los Niños, remains a touchstone in international horror cinema. Plot specifics for the reboot remain tightly guarded.
Huart, who recently made waves in the genre space, won the Midnight Short Jury Award at SXSW 2024 for his innovative vampire short Transylvanie. He continued building his horror credentials with the short films Trigger and Real, which explored digital and found-footage scares and premiered at Fantasia 2024.
