Prime Video is diving deeper into the genre-blending world of young adult fantasy with a new series adaptation of Lauren Roberts’ best-selling romantasy trilogy, starting with Powerless. The project is in development at Amazon MGM Studios, with Maxton Hall breakout writer Daphne Ferraro attached as creator and showrunner.

The story is set in the magical kingdom of Ilya, where the powerful Elites dominate, and those without powers, known as Ordinaries, are hunted. The series follows Paedyn Gray, an Ordinary forced into hiding after her father is executed by the king. Living as a thief in the slums, her survival depends on staying invisible until a split-second decision changes everything. After saving Prince Kai, the king’s dangerous and conflicted younger son, Paedyn is dragged into the brutal Purging Trials, a high-stakes competition she’s unprepared for and never wanted to be part of. As tensions rise and loyalties are tested, the line between hunter and hunted begins to blur, especially as an undeniable attraction grows between the prince and the girl he’s meant to eliminate.

Described as a “romantasy”, the series is adapted from Roberts’ popular trilogy: Powerless (2023), Reckless (2024), and Fearless (2025). The first season will focus on the events of the debut novel.

Ferraro, who led the writing for Maxton Hall, Prime Video’s biggest international original series launch, will executive produce alongside Will Gluck, Madison Jones, and Jacqueline Monetta for Olive Bridge, and Alex Black, Jon Rosenberg, and Natalie Sellers for Lyrical Media. Roberts will also serve as an executive producer.

This marks another major YA move for Prime Video, which already boasts a growing portfolio of hits like The Summer I Turned Pretty, Culpables, and Maxton Hall, as well as sprawling fantasy titles like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
