Netflix has officially locked in January 16, 2026, as the premiere date for The RIP, a gritty new crime thriller headlined by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The announcement came during the streamer’s Tudum event, where attendees were treated to an exclusive sneak peek of the film, shown only to those in the room.

Directed and written by Joe Carnahan, The RIP centres on a group of Miami police officers whose bond begins to crumble after they uncover millions of dollars hidden in an abandoned stash house. As word of the find spreads, the officers face mounting pressure and growing paranoia, raising questions about loyalty, corruption, and survival.

The cast also includes Scott Adkins, Sasha Calle, Teyana Taylor, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Nestor Carbonell. Adkins will portray the brother of Ben Affleck’s character. Artists Equity, the production company founded by Damon and Affleck, is backing the project. Michael Joe and Kevin Halloran serve as executive producers for the company.

Since launching Artists Equity in late 2022, Damon and Affleck have quickly built a diverse slate of critically acclaimed and commercially successful projects. Their debut, Air, opened in spring 2023 to strong box office returns and praise for its direction and performances. They’ve since followed up with The Greatest Love Story Never Told for Amazon MGM Studios and Small Things Like These.

Affleck also recently returned for The Accountant 2, which became a global success. The duo’s documentary Kiss The Future, which also premiered at Berlin, further solidified Artists Equity’s presence in both narrative and non-fiction storytelling.
