With Denis Villeneuve attached to direct the next film in the James Bond franchise, speculation about which actor will play the iconic character has become more intense. Meanwhile, Taron Egerton, an actor who has been regarded as one of the favourites to take over the role from Daniel Craig, has expressed his disinterest in it. Speaking to Collider, Egerton said that he is "too messy" to play Bond and is not the ideal actor for the role. Known for his roles in the Kingsman franchise and Rocketman, Egerton expressed his admiration for former Bond man Daniel Craig. " I really love James Bond and particularly Daniel Craig’s tenure," he told Collider. Interestingly, Egerton advocates the choice of a younger actor for the role. Beyond his suitability, Egerton also questioned whether it is worth playing one character for a long period. “It kind of consumes your life, a role like that," he shared.

The latest comments add to Egerton's 2023 views about the prospect of playing Bond. Speaking to The Telegraph at the time, he said that Barbara Broccoli required a commitment with the role that would last 15 years and that he always had weight management issues. He felt that these concerns made him an inappropriate candidate for Bond, a role he likened to acting as a brand ambassador. Notably, Barbara Broccoli or her half-brother Michael Wilson no longer owns the rights to James Bond. They have given Amazon MGM Studios the creative control of the franchise.
