Fans of the Pride and Prejudice (2005) can rejoice as the romantic drama, based on Jane Austen's book and starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfayden is set for a re-release in Indian theatres on July 25 after a successful box office run across the world. The re-release marks the film’s 20th anniversary.
The film, directed by Joe Wright, features five sisters from an English family of landed gentry as they deal with issues of marriage, morality, and misconceptions. Keira Knightley stars as Elizabeth Bennet, while Matthew Macfadyen plays Mr Darcy, who falls in love with her. Upon release, the film was met with critical and commercial acclaim, eventually becoming a classic among fans of the romance genre.
Pride and Prejudice earned four nominations at the 78th Academy Awards, with 20-year-old Keira Knightley receiving a nod for Best Actress—making her the third-youngest nominee in that category at the time. Additionally, director Joe Wright was honored with the BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer.
The announcement of its re-release was made by PVR INOX, in collaboration with United International Pictures (UIP). The re-release offers an opportunity to new-age audiences to explore the classic as well as fans who are well-acquainted with the film to revisit the story and the actors' performances.
