Martin Scorsese has earned his first Emmy nomination in an acting category for his guest turn in the Apple TV+ series The Studio. The filmmaker's daughter, Francesca Scorsese shared a snapshot of her FaceTime chat where he responded to the news in an emotional manner, holding his face with his hands. Francesca shared pictures of all the actors who got nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series on her Instagram Stories. She added confetti on top of Scorsese's image and wrote, "Our little actor" with a love symbol.
Scorsese plays himself in The Studio, starring Seth Rogen in the role of a new chief at a film studio. "Desperate for celebrity approval, he and his executive team at Continental Studios must juggle corporate demands with creative ambitions as they try to keep movies alive and relevant," reads the official plotline from the streamer. The series also stars Ike Barinholtz and Catherine O'Hara in key roles.
Recently, The Studio co-creator Evan Goldberg told People that Scorsese's performance in the series was "unbelievable".
The other guest stars from The Studio with Emmy nominations are Bryan Cranston, Ron Howard, Dave Franco, and Anthony Mackie. The Bear star Jon Bernthal is the only other actor with a nomination in the category.
The Studio does not mark Scorsese's first Emmy nomination. As a director, he has won Emmy awards twice: one for a Boardwalk Empire episode in 2011 and another for George Harrison: Living in a Material World in 2012. He has also won another Emmy in a non-directorial category (Outstanding Nonfiction Special) for his work in George Harrison: Living in a Material World and has multiple other nominations as a director.
The Primetime Emmy Awards is slated to take place on September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
