
Adding to his already bustling line-up of big budget films, Jon M Chu is set to direct a film based on the Hot Wheels toy line, reports Deadline. The director is behind high profile films like Crazy Rich Asians, Now You See Me 2, and the Wicked sequel, Wicked: For Good.
The film is backed by Warner Bros, which continues its partnership with the creator of Hot Wheels, Mattel, after this highly acclaimed 2023 film Barbie. The film, was directed by Greta Gerwig, and starred Margot Robbie as the titular doll, with Ryan Gosling as Ken. It opened on the same day as Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, creating a fan phenomenon dubbed Barbenheimer.
The film is said to be an high thrill action flick, which will highlight some of the bestselling cars in the world. Director JJ Abrams will produce the film under his Bad Robot banner. Chu also produces the film under his Electric Somewhere banner. Michael Bostick, Zach Hamby, Arturo Thur de Koos, and Sheila Walcott are producing the film. Mattel produces the film under their Mattel Studios banner.
