Actor Michael Madsen, recognised for his performances in Quentin Tarantino films such as the Kill Bill franchise and Reservoir Dogs, died on Thursday. He was 67.

Madsen's representative confirmed that authorities found him unresponsive at his Malibu residence after suffering a cardiac arrest. In a joint statement, Madsen's managers, Ron Smith and Susan Ferris, publicist Liz Rodriguez highlighted his recent professional endeavours. “In the last two years, Michael Madsen was doing some incredible work with independent film, including upcoming feature films Resurrection Road, Concessions, and Cookbook for Southern Housewives, and he was really looking forward to this next chapter in his life. Michael was also preparing to release a new book called Tears For My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems, currently being edited,” read a joint statement from them. They added, "Michael Madsen was one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, who many will miss.”

Madsen's portrayal of his character in the 1992 cult classic crime thriller Reservoir Dogs cemented his status. In an iconic scene from the film, Madsen’s character severs a cop's ear and simultaneously dances to Stealers Wheel's song ‘Stuck in the Middle With You’. Born in Chicago on September 25, 1957, Madsen's early life was rooted in a creative and public service-oriented family. His mother, Elaine, was an author and filmmaker, while his father, Calvin Christian Madsen, served as a firefighter. He grew up alongside his siblings Virginia Madsen, an acclaimed actor with an Oscar nomination, and Cheryl Madsen.

Madsen's artistic endeavours extended beyond his notable acting career. He was also a prolific poet, having published many collections of his work, including Burning in Paradise and Expecting Rain.
