James Gunn recently revealed to Entertainment Weekly that a new film centering on Wonder Woman is in its writing phase. Of late, there has been some speculation about Adria Arjona's casting as Wonder Woman in the aforesaid film. Gunn had a humorous take on the speculation, which appears to be based on him following Arjona on Instagram. Gunn told Extra that people make the speculation purely because Gunn follows her on the social networking platform. He also made a remark about the prospect of Arjona's casting: "She would be a great Wonder Woman, by the way."

Gunn explained that he has been following Arjona for the last seven years, since they collaborated on a film. "We’ve been friends and have known each other since that time," said the filmmaker. However, Gunn might be confusing the timeline a little here because the only film they both collaborated on so far is 2016's The Belko Experiment, the Greg McLean directorial with a screenplay by the Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker.

DC Studios is looking for an actor other than Gal Gadot to play Wonder Woman because the film is set to be a franchise reboot with a different storyline. Gunn revealed that a series on Wonder Woman’s homeland Themyscira is also in the works at HBO, although production on it will take time.

Meanwhile, James Gunn and his DC Studios' co-chief Peter Safran are awaiting the release of Superman, starring David Corenswet in the titular role. The studio's upcoming projects also include Supergirl with director Craig Gillespie and lead star Milly Alcock as well as a Clayface film with filmmaker James Watkins and lead actor Tom Rhys Harries.
