Actor Matthew Lillard is all set to make a return to the Scream franchise as the serial killer Stu Macher in the seventh installment.
Stu's death in the first film has left fans divided, as some say they aren't convinced that he has died while others claim the film has left an open-ended conclusion to him without clearly establishing whether or not he survives the attack. In the film, after Stu sustains a stab attack by his partner in crime Billy Loomis, he gets killed when Sidney Prescott drops a TV set on his head.
The film went on floors early this month with Kevin Williamson returning as a director after a gap of almost 15 years since his Scream 4. The fifth and sixth installments were helmed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
The star-studded cast of Scream 7 includes Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, and Anna Camp. While Neve Campbell is set to return as scream queen Sidney Prescott, Mason Gooding reprises his role as her fellow Ghostface killer, survivor Chad Meeks-Martin. Debutant Isabel May plays Sidney's daughter. Courtney Cox is set to reprise her role as Gale Weathers.
The project has been revamped following the departure of star Jenna Ortega, the firing of actor Melissa Barrera and the exit of director Christopher Landon last year.
The 2022 Scream reboot's producers, James Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak, are producing the film under the banner Project X Entertainment. The makers are yet to disclose its plot details.
Scream 7 is slated for a February 27, 2026, release through Paramount Pictures.
