With Sonic the Hedgehog 3 emerging as one of the biggest hits of 2024 with a global box-office collection of over $420 million, the Paramount Pictures' franchise will get its fourth installment in 2027, the makers announced on Wednesday.
Paramount announced that the film will get a release on March 19, 2027, days after the third film, which had Keanu Reeves playing Shadow, becoming the top-grosser among the films in the franchise. The production-cum-distribution banner also informed that the threequel has generated over $180 million in rentals and purchases.
While Jeff Fowler has directed all three films, with the third film based on the script by Pat Casey, John Whittington and Josh Miller, there is no official word who will write and direct the fourth installment. The third film saw the return of Ben Schwartz voicing the titular role and Jim Carrey as both Dr Robotnik and his grandfather.
In addition to Keanu, Jim and Ben, the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 included Krysten Ritter, Shemar Moore, Idris Elba, Natasha Rothwell, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter and Colleen O’Shaughnessey.
