Fresh off the success of The Twisters, filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung has signed a deal with Skydance to direct The Traveler, a science fiction family drama. The film is a feature adaptation of Joseph Eckert's novel of the same name.
The film is expected to be an intimate family drama that "develops into a vast science fiction odyssey," the sources say, according to the Deadline. The novel is about Scott Treder, a 47-year-old biology technician who strangely experiences a jump from one time period to another. People have been vying for this project ever since an early script by Austin Everett made it to the Blood List, the Hit List and the Black List. It was initially expected to be backed by MGM back in 2019.
However, the current draft, based on which Lee will direct the film, is penned by Justin Rhodes. Rhodes is known for his work in Terminator: Dark Fate. He has also written two episodes of the animated anthology series Secret Level for Amazon Prime Video.
David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will produce under Skydance, along with Adam Rosenberg's Aro Pictures banner.
