Actor Leonardo DiCaprio made a contribution of $1 million towards the Los Angeles fire relief measures as the wildfire ravaged several areas of the city.
According to a Reuters report, the fires damaged over 12,000 homes and other structures, displacing around 2,00,000 people from their residence. The wildfires, fuelled by severe windstorms and drought conditions, started on January 7. After days of firefighting, the red flag warnings of extreme wildfires were lifted across the LA area on Wednesday.
The actor wrote that the Los Angeles wildfires are devastating the city and that he is committing $1 million in partnership with Rewild's Rapid Response Program to support "both urgent needs and post-fire recovery efforts."
He went on to add that the initial aid will benefit LA Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, World Central Kitchen, California Community Foundation, Pasadena Humane Society, and SoCal Fire Fund, as these organisations are providing the resources to "first responders and fire fighters, and the people, animals and communities who need it most."
