Kyrie McAlpin, known for her standout performances in Birdie and Cheaper By The Dozen, has joined the cast of ABC’s hit crime drama Will Trent for its third season. McAlpin will play Sunny, a clever and resourceful tween navigating the challenges of being the daughter of a criminal, now placed in the care of the deputy director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
Will Trent, based on Karin Slaughter’s bestselling book series, follows Special Agent Will Trent (Ramón Rodriguez) of the GBI. Orphaned at birth and raised in Atlanta’s overburdened foster care system, Trent now uses his unique life perspective to solve crimes, earning the highest clearance rate in the bureau.
Season 3 boasts a stellar cast, including Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner, and newcomer Gina Rodriguez as Marion Alba. Joining them this season is Scott Foley as Dr. Seth McDale, head of emergency medicine and Angie’s new romantic interest.
The series is helmed by executive producers Liz Heldens, Daniel Thomsen, Karin Slaughter, Oly Obst, Howard Deutch, Ellen Marie Blum, and Ramón Rodriguez. Heldens and Thomsen also serve as showrunners. Will Trent is produced by 20th Television.
Kyrie McAlpin continues to build an impressive résumé. She recently starred in the BET+ film Blackjack Christmas as Marsha Matthews and took on the lead role of Adeline Bellamy in Birdie, directed by Gregory Allen Williams—a performance that earned her the Audience Award at the 2020 Deadcenter Film Festival. In 2022, McAlpin was nominated for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Younger Voice Performer for her role as Emma in Apple TV+’s Doug Unplugs.
