After their historic Emmy Awards win, Shogun has once again grabbed the headlines for sweeping all four categories for which the historic epic was nominated. The FX series won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series - Drama, while beating competitors The Diplomat and Squid Game by Netflix, Amazon's Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Peacock's The Day of the Jackal, and Apple TV+'s Slow Horses.

Accepting the award, creator Justin Marks said, "Nothing about this show has ever been expected. Truly, it was made on the backs of thousands of yesses that we received over the years from our East-meets-West cast and crew, an extraordinary cast standing right here. To our writer and our directors and our partners at Disney Television, FX and Hulu, all of you guys said yes so many times over the years to a show that on paper you should, quite frankly, have never said yes to. It’s a miracle that everyone still have their jobs."

Earlier at the Emmys, the non-English drama earned 18 awards. At the Golden Globes, lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai won the Best Actor award and Best Actress respectively. Tadanobu Asano bagged the award for Best Supporting Actor thereby claiming a clean sweep in the awards ceremony.

Also created by Rachel Kondo, the series is is based on the 1975 novel by James Clavell, which was previously adapted into a 1980 miniseries. Its ensemble cast includes Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, Anna Sawai, Tadanobu Asano, Takehiro Hira, Tommy Bastow, and Fumi Nikaido. It became FX's most-watched show on global hours streamed and earned critical and commercial acclaim for its screenplay and direction. A second and third season is in early development.
