Fear Street is coming back with more films, author RL Stine has revealed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Ahead of his Goosebumps: The Vanishing premiere's release, he shared, "The writers are working. So I’ve got my fingers crossed."
The three upcoming films will build on Netflix's hit 2021 trilogy directed by Leigh Janiak, along with the soon-to-be-released fourth installment, The Prom Queen, which has completed production and is expected to premiere in 2025.
The series of American horror films are based on Stine's book series of the same name. Blending slasher and supernatural elements, the films center on teenagers striving to lift a centuries-old curse plaguing their town. The initial trilogy was directed by Leigh Janiak, who co-wrote the scripts and stories with various collaborators. The forthcoming fourth installment, however, will be directed by Matt Palmer, based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Donald McLeary.
The first three films, titled Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978 and Fear Street Part Three: 1666, were shot back-to-back, and were released on a weekly basis as Netflix Original Films in July 2021.
Fear Street: Prom Queen, which is an adaptation of Stine's 1992 novel, stars India Fowler, Fina Strazza, David Iacono, Ella Rubin, Chris Klein, Lili Taylor, Suzanna Son, and Katherine Waterston.
Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Kori Adelson of Chernin Entertainment are producing Fear Street: Prom Queen, with Yvonne Bernard, Joan Waricha, and Jane Stine serving as executive producers.
