After working on hit Marvel shows like WandaVision and Agatha All Along, Jac Schaeffer is back directing a Disney+ series. This time, she is set to direct the first episode of the series adaptation of Louis Sachar's young adult book Holes. The novel is turned into a 'gender-swapped' adaptation by Alina Mankin. Reportedly, the series is about a teenage girl who is sent to a detention camp where the ruthless warden forces the campers to dig holes for a mysterious purpose.

The novel was previously adapted as a film by Walt Disney Pictures and directed by Andrew Davis in 2003. The film stars Sigourney Weaver, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Patricia Arquette, Eartha Kitt, and Tim Blake Nelson.

Drew Goddard, the creator and writer of Marvel's Daredevil and a writer for Lost, and his producing partner Sarah Esberg, are set to serve as executive producers under the Goddard Textiles banner. The film's producer, Mike Medavoy is also on board as an executive producer, with Alina Mankin and Liz Phang.
