Two-time Academy Award-winning actor Mahershala Ali is set to star in Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, a forthcoming film from Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures. The project will be helmed by Berlin International Film Festival awardee Bassam Tariq, who also wrote the screenplay.
Details surrounding the storyline remain undisclosed, but the film is being produced by Lucan Toh and Babak Anvari of Two & Two Pictures, alongside Tariq.
This new venture marks a reunion for Ali and Tariq, who were previously linked through Marvel Studios’ much-anticipated Blade reboot. While Tariq had initially been onboard as the film’s director in 2021, he exited the project a year later, and its development remains uncertain.
Ali, who won Oscars for his performances in Moonlight and Green Book, recently starred in Sam Esmail’s thriller Leave the World Behind. Up next, Ali will share the screen with Scarlett Johansson in Jurassic World Rebirth, slated for release on July 2 by Universal Pictures.
Tariq first gained critical acclaim with his debut feature, Mogul Mowgli, which premiered at the 2020 Berlin Film Festival and earned the Critics Award. The film, co-written by Riz Ahmed, follows a British-Pakistani rapper who faces an unexpected health crisis just as his career is set to take off. Tariq began his career in documentary filmmaking with projects like These Birds Walk and Ghosts of Sugar Land and later directed the pilot block for Riz Ahmed’s upcoming Amazon series Quarter Life.
