Isabella Rossellini has been cast in a recurring guest star role in Ryan Murphy’s highly anticipated FX series The Beauty, according to a report on Variety. The celebrated Blue Velvet star and Conclave Oscar nominee joins an already impressive cast that includes Evan Peters, Ashton Kutcher, Anthony Ramos, Jeremy Pope, and Rebecca Hall.
The Beauty, co-created by Murphy and Matthew Hodgson, has received an 11-episode order from FX. The series, currently in production, is based on the Image Comics title of the same name by Jeremy Haun and Jason A Hurley. While specific character and plot details remain undisclosed, the original comic’s premise explores a world where physical perfection is attainable—but at a significant cost. A description of the comic reads:
"Modern society is obsessed with outward beauty. What if there was a way to guarantee you could become more and more beautiful every day? What if it was a sexually transmitted disease? In the world of The Beauty, physical perfection is attainable. The vast majority of the population has taken advantage of it, but Detectives Foster and Vaughn will soon discover it comes at a terrible price."
The executive production team for The Beauty includes Peters, Murphy, Hodgson, Kutcher, Ramos, and Pope, alongside Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, and Eric Gitter. The series is a 20th Television production in association with Ryan Murphy Television.
Rossellini, widely recognised for her performances in Blue Velvet, Death Becomes Her, and Fearless, is currently in the spotlight for her role as Sister Agnes in the papal drama Conclave, which has earned her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination. Her extensive career also includes a Golden Globe nomination for HBO’s Crime of the Century and an Emmy nod for Chicago Hope.
