Acclaimed filmmaker Werner Herzog is making a comeback to direction with an upcoming film titled Bucking Fastard, starring real-life sisters Rooney and Kate Mara. This marks the first instance where the actors will share screen space in a feature film. In the film, they will play fictional siblings, which Herzog will create on the basis of the real story of Joan and Jean, twin sisters who cannot be separated. Herzog will direct Bucking Fastard from his own screenplay. Little else is revealed about the film's plot; however, Herzog's memoir, titled Every Man For Himself And God Against All, mentions Bucking Fastard as the name of an upcoming film he wants to make about British twins Greta and Freda Chaplin. The film marks his directorial return after 2022's documentary Theater of Thought.
The film is set to go on floors in Ireland and Slovenia later this year.
Rooney Mara, best known for her Best Actress Oscar nominated performance in 2011's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, recently starred in filmmaker Sarah Polley's Women Talking. Kate Mara, who earned an Emmy Award nomination for her performance in House of Cards, recently starred in the series Class of '09 on FX, and she will soon be seen in a science-ficition thriller titled The Astronaut.
