We had earlier reported that actor Natalie Portman, joined by Jenna Ortega, will star in The Gallerist, directed by Cathy Van.
The latest update from the team is that the filming has been wrapped. Natalie, on her social media handle, wrote she loved sharing screenspace with the rest of the cast and wished to "share more" with them.
Written jointly by Yan and James Pedersen, the story centres on a desperate gallerist who schemes to sell a deceased man at Art Basel Miami. Portman, along with Sophie Mas, will produce the film through their MountainA banner, joined by producers Jonathan King, Ash Sarohia, Tom McCarthy, Rae Baron, Sophie Mas, and Zola Elgart Glassman.
Portman was last seen in the Golden Globe-nominated film in May December, in 2023. She also produced the Todd Haynes directorial. In addition to The Gallerist, her upcoming projects include a voice role in the animated film The Twits, directed by Phil Johnston, and the adventure film Fountain of Youth, by Guy Ritchie.
Ortega, fresh off the worldwide box office success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which surpassed $400 million, is preparing to film Season 2 of Netflix’s Wednesday and has a top-secret J.J. Abrams project lined up for next year.
Cathy Yan, known for her work on Dead Pigs and Birds of Prey, recently directed an episode in the final season of HBO’s Emmy-winning drama Succession.
